It’s been a while, I know. But I’m here. There are many things going on and lately I am struggling a bit on my juggling around. Glad that one way or another I can push to you a new issue of Feather. Better late than never, I guess.
🎶And there is still music!
I’ve been obsessed, absolutely obsessed, with this piece by Italian electrofunk ensemble Nu Genea.
🔮Divination Station
What is more fabulous than a good deck of tarot? I guess a good deck of tarot made by American-Italian queer artists and inspired by pasta. I absolutely love this. Support them!
In the meantime, I finally decided to get myself a copy of the absolutely over the top Carnival at the End of the World deck, which I can’t wait to use (if you follow my Instagram you probably know I do daily Tarot readings, and new moon live readings. I probably need to start a separate account for that).
What I like about this deck is the surrealistic approach and the fact it’s all character based. Also, such good art! It’s a bit hard to find now, but if you’re in the UK you might find it at the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic.
I also got myself a copy of Jessica Dore’s Tarot for Change, which is a deeply interesting reading in how tarot can be used for a practice of self-awareness and healing. It’s a pretty good book, especially if you are already confident with the symbology (but great for beginners as well!). You can get it in all the usual places, here’s a random link.
Why I’m talking so much about tarot?
First of all because Tarot are awesome. Learning to read them has given me so much, in many different ways. They are a great storytelling device, they can help you understand yourself better, they are perfect for having deep conversations with people.
And they are just so interesting and rich in symbols.
Secondly, with the awesome people at 3 of Cups Games, we’re working on an incredible anthology game, which is putting together 22 teams working on games inspired by the Major Arcana.
Cartomancy is currently on Kickstarter, so please support us! This project is going to be something really, really special. We are team Star and we’re beyond excited! Here is an interpretation of the card by our great artist Alex Bertram-Powell.
🐴Weirdness(es)
Humans can be amazing. Like when someone tried to sue Pepsi for a military jet. It’s quite the story: https://thehustle.co/leonard-v-pepsi-harrier-jet-lawsuit
In other news, imagine a group of people hanging out an online videogame (in this case: Red Dead Redemption online) and just exploring the limits of the world and peeking behind the curtain and discovering a magical, etheral world.
What are the borders of a game space? How they speak of the humanity of a digital space? Marie Foulston has investigated it in an upcoming documentary which I can’t wait to watch. Check it out here.
🤓Read Stuff
Speaking of game spaces, I am a big (huge) fan of Heterotopias, a digital magazine about games and architecture, which critically analyzes game spaces and what they signify and imply.
Always a great reading, here is the last number but if you have never read it the bundle is an excellent deal.
📺Something to watch
Hey, you: SPOILERS. A LOT OF THEM. You’re warned.
The Batman Trailer, but it’s Ted Lasso is a hilarious rework on one of the best comedy TV shows of last years. It also mocks what it’s probably the worst character story ark recently seen in an otherwise great TV show 🤷♂️
💎Ok, then!
This is it for this month (these two and a half months, rather). Actually, no! There’s still something!
With 3 of Cups Games we’ve also published a small game, designed by yours truly, called Summer Gems.
It’s about summer friendships and finding treasures on the beach and how transient things sometimes can be not so transient and all that jazz. Play it, if you like, and share your comments here. It’s a little work of love and we really enjoyed making it.
Let’s think a bit more about summer. See you all soon. Take care. ❤
